Thoughts on Todd Akin

The forgiveness of Todd’s remark is not the issue here; it is the understanding of a man who could make such a remark. First and foremost, a person has to understand the passions that that drive a man like Todd. Ambitious, aggressive, self-possessed, and ego driven – all the hallmarks of an alpha (yet insecure) male. The callousness of his remarks simply validates this opinion.

Secondly, and the case in point, is his education. Todd chose an undergraduate degree in management, but as a graduate (his tertiary education) he chose a Masters in Divinity (M.Div.).By any measure, he is a man of the cloth first, and a politician second. Caveat Emptor!

Third, like many of his age and gender, Todd chose to spend the last years of the Vietnam involvement in the loving embrace of the Missouri National Guard (stateside). Sound familiar? Ans. as I’ve said before, a doctor of Divinity degree does not bestow the skills, knowledge, and prerogatives of a graduate and board certified gynecologist.

All women should view this man with great suspicion … after all, what’s next, virginity tests, veils, chadors, burqas, stoning – a Scarlet Letter?
